Atlanta is the capital and largest city of Georgia and the center of a large metro area in the Southeast. City population: 498,715 (2020 Census), estimated 510,823 (July 2023). The metro is spread out; many people live in nearby cities such as Doraville, Chamblee, Norcross and Riverdale.

Getting around
MARTA runs buses and trains; fare $2.50 per trip with up to 4 free transfers within 3 hours; trains go directly to Hartsfield-Jackson airport. Many suburbs still need a car.
Driver’s license: per Georgia DDS, new residents have 30 days to get a Georgia license; holders of licenses from countries without a reciprocity agreement with DDS (which usually includes Vietnam) must pass the knowledge, road and vision tests. The road-rules part is offered in other languages; the road-sign test is English only.

Humid subtropical: hot July (average high about 90°F / 32°C), cool January (average low about 36°F / 2°C), with occasional brief ice or snow.

A major transportation and logistics hub (Hartsfield-Jackson airport, interstates, rail), with many restaurants and hotels, healthcare, universities and corporate offices.

Buford Highway (Doraville – Chamblee) has many Vietnamese supermarkets, restaurants, bookstores and services. Parishes: Our Lady of Vietnam (91 Valley Hill Road, Riverdale – a parish since 1998) and Holy Vietnamese Martyrs (Norcross).
